“Do you really think they’ll talk about this in 40 years?” Okay, yes it’s not a movie, but it’s close enough! The shark is broken is a stage play that is currently on the West End in London, about the creation of Spielbergs Jaws (1975). So it’s about making one of the best movies ever? I want to see it !! Seen on a boat in 1974 – the shooting has stopped. The protagonists – Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss – are stuck on a boat, at the mercy of bad weather and a defective mechanical partner. Flooded by alcohol and ambition, three hammered sharks begin to bar their teeth … Ian Shaw stars like his father Robert Shaw. He is joined by Liam Murray Scott as Richard Dreyfuss (repeating the role he played at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2019), and Demetri Goritsas as Roy Scheider. The piece actually got FANTASTIC reviews, which should be more than enough to convince you to book a ticket to London and catch it before the race is over.
Here is the official trailer (+ poster) for Joseph Nixon & Ian Shaw’s The shark is broken, from YouTube:
Dive into the drama behind the scenes at Jaws! Martha’s Vineyard, 1974: shooting at Jaws has stalled. The film’s main characters – Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss – are stuck on a boat, at the mercy of bad weather and a defective mechanical co-star. Flooded with both alcohol and ambition, three hammered sharks begin to bar their teeth … The shark is broken is a stage play directed by a British actor / theater director Guy Masterson, director of many other plays, among others A wing over the Cuckoo’s Nest and 12 angry men. The script is co-written by Joseph Nixon and Ian Shaw. This one premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019 for the first time before opening at the West End in London. The shark is broken is on now at the Ambassadors Theater in London – only until 13 February 2022. For more info + tickets, visit the play’s official website.
