WAUKESHA, Wis. – Darrell Brooks ex-boyfriend and his son’s mother said she’s horrified by her connection to the man who allegedly plowed his Ford SUV for an annual Christmas parade, killed six and wounded more than 60.

“It was a monstrous act, and it’s completely irreversible,” she told Fox News. “I’m upset and crushed and have lost sleep for days over this. Of course I wish it didn’t happen.”

The $ 151 a month that Brooks is supposed to pay “is not going to earn or break us,” said the mother, who has a successful career.

Brooks has popped in and out of his son’s life and has made sporadic attempts to create a relationship with him. The teenager, who last saw Brooks a few years ago, was wiped out by the massacre allegedly carried out by his father.

“It’s private how he feels, but he’s as upset as I am,” she said. “[Brooks] has not made a good name for us. “

The ex-husband met Brooks, whose nickname is “Lucky” when she was a teenager and got pregnant. The two were only together for six months.

In a much-criticized move, a junior prosecutor recommended Brooks’ $ 1,000 release in cash bail for the serious criminal case – an amount immediately sent by his mother, Dawn Woods. About two weeks later, he allegedly mowed down vacationers in Waukesha – allegedly killing 8-year-old Jackson Sparks and allegedly seriously mutilating several other children.

The outraged Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisholm called the bail amount “inappropriately low” and said he had launched an internal investigation into the decision.

The ex-boyfriend with the teenage son said Brooks suffers from mental illness and is on medication.

After the Waukesha hit, the former flame called Brooks’ mother to check on her.

“She feels crushed and disgusted,” the ex said. “She did not know he was capable of doing such a thing. That is not the way she brought him up.”

In a letter released Wednesday, Woods offered her compassion and blamed the tragedy for the lack of mental health services for her, so according to CBS.

“Instead of offering help and resources to combat the problem, a prison cell was given over and over again,” she wrote.

The ex-husband said she’s trying to get on with her life as best she can – but her heart is with Brooks’ victims.

“I’m so sick and I pray for everyone,” the ex said. “Not just for the physical pain, but for the mental pain they are going to go through in the years to come. The charge is irreparable.”
