SoCal fast food workers are participating in a nationwide strike demanding better conditions

Fast food workers in Southern California are joining a nationwide strike that demands better conditions and reasonable wages.

Workers gathered at a McDonald’s in Monterey Park to protest against unsafe conditions, especially in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Fight for $ 15 Los Angeles indicated that the particular place ignored mandates and the safety of their staff.

Protesters were joined by elected representatives who exclaimed FRA 257, which would strengthen unions and offers protection of workers.

Strikers told KTLA that this is not just a fight for minimum wage. It’s about sanitation, their health and their everyday life at work.

Carlos, who works at a McDonald’s along Crenshaw Boulevard, called the working conditions at his place “terrible” and “impossible”. He said there is no air conditioning and they are short staffed, forcing some to work 16-hour shifts.

When he brought up his frustration to the management, they did not do much to correct the conditions, Carlos told KTLA.

Imelda Rosales said those who raise their voices will be punished with fewer hours. She added that this is why AB 257 is needed so that their voices are heard.

“We want better conditions at work,” Rosales said. “My shoulder is really damaged… and they do not care. They think we’re a robot, not a human. “
