Kaia Gerber wears Gwyneth Paltrow’s Gucci suit on the ‘Elle’ cover

Double roof! Kaia Gerber anesthetized on the front of She – and her outfit should look a little familiar. The 20-year-old model who recently broke up with Jacob Elordi, wore an innovative version of the always iconic red velvet Gucci suit Gwyneth Paltrow shook for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1996.

While the look-a-like nature was hard to miss, it was the menswear-inspired look that was originally created by Tom Ford, has received an upgrade in the 25 years since it made its debut. The current version is designed by Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele for the brand’s spring collection 2022.

There are very subtle differences along lapels and pockets, but it is safe to say that this look passed the test of time. And Gerber even put his own twist on the story-making outfit thanks to some styling changes.

While the 49-year-old Goop founder originally paired his ensemble with a blue button and got his hair straightened back in a ponytail, the YSL Beauty ambassador put a sexier spin on the outfit. She jumped completely over an undershirt and let go of her hair.

Fans perceived the “Who Wore It Best” moment quite instantly. “The red suit, ”Wrote one user on Gerber’s Instagram post. “Wow, they’re bringing it back from the ’90s! I remember when Gwyneth Paltrow wore that suit,” another person commented on Elle’s editor – in – chief statement Nina Garcia‘s post.

Gerber is not the only one who has retrieved the suit from the archives. Politicians star put her own spin on the look she brought to popularity earlier this year.

For the Gucci Love Parade in October, Paltrow wore the upgraded red suit – and she even styled it in exactly the same way. Her hair was in a loose chignon, her collared shirt was buttoned up, and her makeup was almost identical.

While the fabulous fashion moment obviously sent style lovers into a spiral, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Paltrow talked about how much she loved the look in an April video with Vogue, the suit calls “one of my favorites.”

“This is one of Tom Ford’s original collections for Gucci. I was super – as everyone was at the time – obsessed with what he was doing for Gucci. He completely revolutionized the brand, ”she said in her Life in Looks clip. “Everyone was shouting about getting everything they could from the collection and I was very lucky to borrow this beautiful red velvet tuxedo from him.”
