Princess Di Confidante Jemima Khan cuts ties with ‘The Crown’ over concerns in season 5 story lines that are not handled ‘respectfully or compassionately’

Jemima Khan has ended her engagement with “The Crown” due to concerns that the upcoming season’s stories involving Princess Diana will not be treated as “respectfully and compassionately” as she had been led to expect.

Khan, who was a close friend of the late Royale, has confirmed that she has severed ties to the Netflix series after previously being brought on board to help series creator Peter Morgan with script stories involving Diana’s final year.

Khan, a film and television producer whose credits include the current season of “American Crime Story” and the HBO documentary series “The Case Against Adnan Syed,” told Sunday Times why she chose to leave “The Crown”.

“It was really important to me that the last years of my friend’s life were portrayed accurately and with compassion, as has not always happened before,” she explained.

When she came to understand how “The Crown” planned to handle stories about Diana, she decided to end her relationship with the show and requested that all of her contributions not be used and that she not receive any writing credit.

“In 2019, Peter Morgan asked me to co-write the fifth series of ‘The Crown,’ especially the episodes that dealt with Princess Diana’s last year before she died. After much deliberation, after never speaking publicly about some of this before, I decided to contribute, ”she said.

“We worked together on the outline and the manuscripts from September 2020 to February 2021. When our co-writer agreement was not kept and when I realized that the particular story would not necessarily be told as respectfully or compassionately as I had hoped, I asked, that all my contributions are removed from the series and I declined a credit, ”Khan added.

Production of the fifth season of “The Crown” began in July, with Dominic West taking over the role of Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, previously played by Emma Corrin.
