Bradley Cooper recalls the ‘crazy’ moment he was held at Knifepoint on the NYC Subway
Bradley Cooper described the moment he was stabbed on board the New York City subway back in 2019 – and how he escaped his attacker.
In Monday’s episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, the “A Star Is Born” actor opened up about his shocking ordeal after he and Shepard talked about using AirPod Max headphones … and how it could prove dangerous to wear them in public.
“I used to walk around New York City all the time with these on. This was pre-pandemic. I was on the subway at 11:45 to pick up Lea in the center of the Russian school and I was stopped with a knife,” said Cooper, referring to his now 4-year-old daughter with Irina Shayk. He added that this incident happened back in October 2019.

“I realized I had gotten too comfortable in the city. My guard was it down. And I’m at the very end of the subway. Congenitally, I just wanted to go all the way down to the end, “he continued.” I felt like someone was coming up. I thought, ‘Oh, they want to take a picture’ or something. When I turned, I was up against the post, as if it was ‘The French Connection’ or something s —, and I turned. I looked down and I saw a knife. “
He described it as having a 2 1/2 – 3-inch blade and wooden shaft and said it looked like “a nice knife” that “had a certain history.”
“I have my headphones on all the time so I can not hear anything. I’m just listening to music. So it’s scored, it’s all scored,” he added, saying he could not remember what he was listening to. until then. “So I look up, I see the person’s eyes, and I’m taken by how young they are.”
“I’m sure you’ve learned this, you never run from a knife, you try to stay there,” Cooper continued, explaining that he did the exact opposite by lifting his elbow, raising his arm and making a run after it.

“I’m just starting to book. Have just started running. Jumped over the counter, hid around the white, tiled foyer entrance to the subway, took out my phone,” he continued. “He jumped over, ran away, and I took a picture of him. Then I chased him up the stairs. He started running up 7th Avenue. I took two more pictures of him.”
Cooper said he then ran to two NYPD officers and showed them the photos he took before continuing to ask him if he had been injured.
“He says, ‘Are you stuck?’ I was like, ‘No, no,’ “recalled Cooper, who said the officer told him to keep checking” to see if you’ve been stabbed. ” He added: “What is happening is that people are being stabbed and they are in shock. I was looking to see if he was right. It was crazy, bro.”
Although it is unclear what happened to his assailant – if anything – Cooper ended his story by saying he got back on the subway after that and went to pick up his child.
