Will Smith is not afraid to go deep into the trailer for the new fitness series
Will Smiths upcoming YouTube series, The best shape of my life, will not be a typical, light-hearted ride-along with a middle-aged movie star as he tries to shed a few pounds. What starts with some funny pictures of belly slabs and comments about his mega-cut look in Me, Robot quickly becomes more serious. In the new trailer, which also touches on his upcoming book, A-lists allude to a time in his life when he “considered suicide.”
He says these words at a table surrounded by his visibly worried family. He is later seen at the same table (but wearing a different shirt) while dabbing his eyes and mumbling “found”.
The footage for the fitness series coincided with Smith writing his long-awaited memoirs, Will. “It reveals my life and so many things that people do not know about me,” he says of the book in the short clip. A clinical psychologist by name Dr. Ramani Durvasula says Smith embarks on “two extraordinarily difficult journeys,” citing his autobiography and his pressure to lose 20 pounds in 20 weeks. The trailer shows that Smith reaches a breaking point: In the middle of barbells and exercise equipment, he turns to the camera and says, “I do not want to do any of this,” and that he is “done” with the series.
In what sounds like Smith reading an excerpt from Will‘s finished draft, he says: “What you have come to understand as ‘Will Smith’, the alien-exterminating emcee, the bigger than life movie star, is very much a construction, a carefully crafted and refined character designed for to protect myself, to hide myself from the world, to hide the coward. “
Last summer, Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith joked through tears about their “bad marriage for life” on a very unusual episode of Red Table Talk.
Will Smith: The best form of my life debuts on YouTube on November 8 with six episodes.
