The PA school group breaks away from National Org. Calling anti-CRT parents for ‘domestic terrorists’

The Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) reportedly voted to sever ties with the National School Boards Association (NSBA) after the group sent a letter to President Joe Biden seeking help from federal law enforcement to deal with parents who oppose Critical Race Theory (CRT) and mask mandates.
The PSBA allegedly issued an internal memo on the issue that created a national firestorm after U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland responded to the NSBA letter by declaring that he would mobilize The FBI against parents who expressed concerns at local school board meetings, possibly identifying them as “domestic terrorists,” as requested by the NSBA.

According to education researcher Corey A. DeAngelis, the PSBA note noted the “national controversy … suggests that some parents should be considered domestic terrorists was the last straw.”
“This misleading approach has made our work and the work of many school boards more difficult,” the PSBA statement said, adding:
It has plagued several disputes and thrown parties in our work on behalf of school leaders as we seek to find common ground and support all school leaders in their work, regardless of their policies. Now is not the time for more politics and attitude. It is time for solutions to the many challenges that education faces.
While the PSBA argued that it “abhors the fact that some boards have been met with threats and violence,” the group added that “attempts to address the issue of a call for federal intervention are not the place to start, or a model for promote greater courtesy and respect for the democratic process. “
The PSBA further acknowledged that “it has been a struggle for the board and management … to identify a reason to remain part of a union that is not focused on twofold, civility and to seek solutions to the internal problems that have plagued the national organization for so long. “
“From financial and pension issues to an endless disagreement over a governance model and definition of membership, the problems in the NSBA have only become more and more entrenched despite recurring promises of action,” the PSBA explained.

According to a report at Delaware Valley Journal, Annette Stevenson, Head of Communications at PSBA, said last week, her state group rejected the letter NSBA sent to Biden.
“The Pennsylvania School Boards Association was not heard until the letter was sent by the National School Boards Association to President Biden,” she said. “We were not asked for input or discussion about its contents.”
Stevenson elaborated:
The PSBA has always encouraged local school boards to receive input and comments from community members and all stakeholders, and Pennsylvania has a long history of relying on local school district control to ensure that the will of the community and parents is best represented. The PSBA strongly opposes the lack of courtesy and violence witnessed in some districts, and we support local districts being able to work with their local and regional law enforcement to address such security issues.
Other state school board associations have waived NSBA’s letter to Biden, including Louisiana, Virginia, and Florida.
