High Surf Warning: Dangerous waves at Bay Area beaches

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – A High Surf Advisory is still in place for Bay Area beaches through Tuesday morning.

It lasts from 11pm Sunday to 11am Tuesday.

The warning says there is an increased risk of sneaker waves, major breaking waves, rip currents and increased coastal drift during this time.

These waves are capable of pulling people into the water, which can be fatal.

Waves can be as high as 30 feet at the west- and northwest-facing beaches, according to the National Weather Service.

They recommend staying away from coastal bridges and large rocks and keeping a close eye on children and pets. Also, do not turn your back on the sea and pay attention to waves approaching the shore.
