Disney + Releases Higher Quality She-Hulk Trailer, Improving the MCU Hero’s CGI

Disney + shares a new version of the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer that includes an improved CGI model of the show’s titular protagonist.

Disney + recently released a higher quality She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer that seemingly improves the CGI for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s newest green-hued hero.

The revised trailer’s enhanced She-Hulk CGI model was first spotted by The Direct. Improvements are believed to include better-defined facial features, improved skin textures and tonal variety, and upgraded lighting and related effects, such as clearer reflections on the character’s eyes. The CGI used to render She-Hulk, which is based on the likeness of star Tatiana Maslany, even includes skin pores not visible in the earlier, lower-resolution trailer.

The She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer dropped in May 2022 and offered audiences their first proper look at Maslany as both Jennifer Walters and her superpowered alter-ego. Although many fans were excited to finally see the Jade Giantess in action, She-Hulk’s CGI was widely criticized for looking unconvincing. Some fans even suggested that Marvel Studios would’ve been better off realizing She-Hulk via makeup and practical effects, like Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Several Marvel Comics aficionados also complained about She-Hulk’s apparent lack of muscles in the upcoming Disney + series. While the CGI model boasts a noticeably larger frame than Maslany, these enthusiasts maintain that the MCU version of She-Hulk should be much closer in height and overall bulk to her cousin, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

In response to the fan uproar, VFX artist Sean Ruecroft claimed that She-Hulk’s original design included more muscles. “I was at a company that did VFX for [She-Hulk: Attorney at Law]. Apparently, she was bigger early on, but the notes kept saying to ‘make her smaller.’ We always roll our eyes (like we did on Sonic) but at the end of the day artists gotta follow orders, “Ruecroft tweeted.

Fans’ concerns over the design of She-Hulk‘s protagonist does not appear to extend to the show’s comics-accurate portrayal of Abomination, though. Abomination’s new look was briefly showcased in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsand is markedly different from how the supervillain was first depicted in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Despite Abomination’s altered appearance, the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer makes it clear that English actor Tim Roth will once again play the baddie’s human self, former Royal Marine Emil Blonsky.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law arrives on Disney + on Aug. 17.
