Wicked Movie finds its tracks in Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande

The crew of Evil has just added two big names to play its lead roles. Based on the popular Broadway show of the same name, which itself was inspired by The Wizard of Oz, Evil is under development at Universal with Jon M. Chu on board to direct the filming. It has not just been revealed that Cynthia Erivo will be playing Elphaba starring Ariana Grande in the lead role as Glinda. Both announced their respective castings with similar postings on Instagram.

Cynthia Erivo posted a handful of photos on her Instagram account, and with the first photo that gave a shock, it seems to be when she found out she had been given the role. Other photos show her having a video call with Grande, who is also ecstatic about their paired casting. A picture reveals a bouquet sent to Erivo with a note from Ariana that reads, “Dear Cynthia, the honor is not even beginning to cover it. I can not wait to hug you. See you in Oz.”

Also takes to Instagram, Ariana Grande posted something similar, starting with a picture of the singer and actress that looks like she has just been told some very big news. She also unveiled her own bouquet with a note from Erivo that read: “Congratulations Miss A, the part is made for you, I look forward to sharing this musical journey with you.”

Evil told from the perspective of the witches who put a spin on The Wizard of Oz with Dorothy acting as a more minor character. It follows two witch friends, Elphaba (aka the evil witch from the West) and Glinda (aka Glinda the good witch), in the events before and during Dorothy’s journey to the magical land of Oz. The musical has become one of the most popular in the world with more than $ 1 billion earned in Broadway revenue.

There have been efforts for many years to get Evil made into a movie, but only recently have the gears really started to get underway with the project. Earlier this year, it was reported that Jon M. Chu had boarded the project to serve as director. This summer, Chu provided an update on the project in an interview with Collider.

“Yes, of course, we must have Oz, and you will be in this crazy world, and you will visit this innocent place again, and you will see that it is not as innocent as it had been in the past,” Chu said. “But you also get to see the relationship between these two women [Elphaba and Glinda] is more real than ever that we’re going to be so close to them. “

He adds: “We will mess with them to try to get into that school, or when one crosses the other. You will hate the other at some point. You will want them to make up at another time. point and you will feel when they separate. That’s the most important thing. The play? That’s the easy part we can hire a lot of people to do it. That’s the little moments … that’s what’s going to happen. make it.”

A release date has not yet been set Evil. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu and is co-written by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman. Marc Platt produces.
