Taika Waititi has officially signed on to direct a film adaptation of Alejandro Jodorowsky and Mœbius’ bestselling graphic novel, “The Incal”. Waititi will also co-author the project with Jemaine Clement and Peter Warren.

Per “Deadline”, the film will come from Humanoids and Primer Entertainment, it will mark Humanoids’ first entry into the world of film. Jodorowsky and the French artist Mœbius unveiled “The Incal” in the late 1970s, and it went on to become the best-selling sci-fi graphic novel in history. Taika Waititi had this to say about taking on the project:

“Alejandro Jodorowsky’s films and graphic novels have influenced me and so many others for so long. I was amazed at the opportunity to bring his iconic characters to life, and I’m grateful to Alejandro, Fabrice, and everyone at HUMANOIDS for trust me to do that. “

“The Incal” is described as a “Epic space opera centered on the shabby PI John Difool, who encounters a mysterious artifact known as the Incal – an object of great power coveted by many factions across the galaxy. a clumsy crew of unlikely cohorts – reluctantly embarking on what begins as an unlikely mission to save the universe, and slowly becoming a spiritual journey that explores the duality and meaning of life. ” There is probably potential for more productions to take place in this area because “The Incal” serves as the basis for “Jodoverse”, which includes the best-selling comics “The Metabarons” and “Megalex”, which could be explored via further movies in the future.

Do you think Taikia Waititi is the right choice to bring “The Incal” to life?
