New York City Council Moves to Deny Citizenship – The Published Reporter®

BOCA RATON, FL – Talk about madness. On December 9, the New York City Council will most likely pass a law that will allow non-citizens to vote in elections for mayor, city council, city presidents, school boards, and likely dog catchers. Madness in N. degree. But you have to give the councilors the credit for sticking to their goal of destroying the big big apple. Over 800,000 non-citizens, both green card holders and non-citizens who have lived in the city for at least (WOW!) 30 consecutive days prior to the election, will have the opportunity to become voters if this legislation, entitled “Our city, our voice,” as it surely will, pass. Several loaded moving vehicles drove south.

According to the New York Times, the new law will make NYC the largest municipality in the country, giving non-citizens the right to vote in local elections. Even the current crazy hat-trick mayor de Blasio, who is not known as much as a Conservative, has reservations, though he has little chance of stopping it, as the Council will certainly hit it through. He rightly fears that the bill will reduce the incentive for immigrants to become citizens – whose citizenship should no longer be required to participate in local elections. Ydanis Rodriquez, a radical councilor who became a citizen in 2000, said: “We are restoring the rights of individuals who pay their taxes. This is about taxation without representation.” So if an illegal immigrant pays VAT in the store, does he have the right to vote? Give us a break. And what about real citizens, non-residents with cottages or apartments in the city who actually pay property taxes? What about international students living in the city who pay taxes on goods purchased in the city? Should not the above also have the right to elect local leaders? Why not? And what stops everyone who really wants to be a part of our city from not applying for citizenship?
NYC’s Election Board showed its incompetence in terms of bookkeeping, as it indicated that it could not even handle the formation of ballot papers after last year’s boondoggle election. What will it do next year (if this legislation is passed) when these millions or so of non-citizens go to the polls? Do they individually only receive ballot papers for the city election only? Two sets of ballot papers – one for citizens and one for non-citizens? A mish-mash will definitely happen.
We fear that this step is just another one to demean our nation. To ruin the pride we used to have over being “Americans.” Our parents came here to stay, not just to visit for a month or two. They gave this nation everything. They studied to learn about this nation. They learned English to show their love for this country. They persuaded their children to “Speak only English! You are in America.” They immersed themselves to assimilate, to become citizens, legally. They had to pass a test to be able to call themselves proud “Americans.” They stood in line to vote on election day, rain, sunshine or cold. It was not, and it should not be easy to become a citizen and have the gifts granted that status. But the move that is growing around the country is making the designation; “citizen,” worthless. And with it the pride of this country. Sad that New York City, home of Ellis Island, is now a leader in abolishing citizenship.
