New Blood Showrunner reveals its ending for original series
Dexter: New blood showrunner, Clyde Phillips, is still not over the finale of the original Dexter run and would have suggested a completely different fate for Michael C. Hall‘s beloved serial killer. In a talk with Entertainment Weekly, Philips unveiled its uncreated final scene, which would have led the original series down a completely different path.
Dexter takes on a new identity in the original finale and becomes a lumberjack who leaves his son after his sister Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) door. The ending, which is much despised by fans, is also insulted by Philips himself, who was responsible for the original show as a showrunner in its first four seasons. When asked about his impressions of last season, Philips said that “as an audience with a vested interest, I thought the show had gone wrong. I mean, there were videos of people watching the last episode and shouting at their television. ”
Philips emphasizes, however, that he “was not in the room, so I can not really criticize anyone for it.” As Philips explains, “there are many factors that come into play in what happens between executive and network influencers,” meaning there is no one to blame Dexterends.
Although Philipps understands that sometimes the creative direction of a series is not under the control of showrunners, he reiterates that the best way to end Dexter would be to kill Hall’s character. Philips also has what he thinks would be the perfect closing scene in his mind, a shot he never got the chance to suggest. In Philips’ words:
“My personal conclusion on the show was that he would be executed for his crimes. He’s lying on the table and outside the window are all the people he killed. It was just in my own head. I never told anyone. ”
Phillips is back to Dexter‘s universe as a showrunner of New Blood, a revival season that promises to put an end to the serial killer’s journey. Recorded almost a decade after the original finale, Dexter: New blood brings back many familiar characters, including an adult version of Dexter’s son Harrison (Jack Alcott), the ghost of his sister Debra, and even some of the series’ great evils such as John Lithgow‘s Trinity Killer. Dexter‘s revival cast also includes Johnny Sequoyah, Alano Miller, Julia Jones, Jamie Chung, Oscar Wahlberg, and Michael Cyril Creighton.
