Jay-Z recognizes Damon Dash during Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech amid legal battle over ‘Reasonable Doubt’
Jay-Z‘s troubled relationship with former friend and business partner Damon Dash took a back seat this weekend after the hip-hop mogul praised the music director during his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech.
Over the course of Saturday, October 30, Jay, whose real name is Sean Carter, paid tribute to those who have helped him over the years, which basically made him the mogul he is today, including Roc A -Fella co-founders Dame and Kareem “Biggs” Burke.
“Shout up to Dame. I know we do not see eye to eye, but I can never delete your performance, and I appreciate you and thank you for that. And shout out to ‘Biggs’; he is one of the most “Honorable people I’ve ever met. We created something that will probably never be duplicated,” said the Roc Nation founder.
Jay and Dame are currently involved in a legal battle after “Feelin ‘It” rapper and lawyer Alex Spiro filed a lawsuit against native Harlem alleging the director was trying to auction off Jay’s 1996 debut album “Reasonable Doubt” “as a non-fungible digital token, also known as an NFT, without permission.
Dame – who allegedly owns a third of the iconic music label – however disputed these allegations, stating that he was only trying to sell his share. The businessman referred to his former longtime colleague as a “liar” during an interview with Page Six.
Dame claimed that the lawsuit, filed in June last year, only came about because he rejected what he described as a “crackhead deal” from “The Big Pimpin ‘” rapper, who allegedly tried to buy him out. his share for $ 1.5 million.
“It’s the same f-king game. It just seems like they’s so mad if I get money. I do not know why, but why can I not sell my third to whom I want when I want? I need do not ask, “he said at the time.”… He [Jay] I do not want anyone but him to eat. The real problem is [he has to] to compromise a man’s reputation for no reason. “
Jay and Dame’s feud can be traced back to the early 2000s, after the couple separated, following creative differences over the brand’s future. Jay eventually took over as president of Def Jam records, while Dame ran Roc-A-Fella until the company eventually withered away.
Jay, who rarely shows up on social media, took the time out Saturday night to thank everyone involved in his introductory ceremony. “Thanks to everyone in that video package, I’m definitely going to cry in the car,” he wrote.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremonies will be available for streaming on November 20 on HBO Max.
