Is Zack Snyder’s latest crisis teasing linked to Jim Lee’s crisis teasing from DC Fandome?

Last night, filmmaker Zack Snyder shared a photo from his Thanksgiving dinner, and immediately got the internet talking. The image contained, blurred and in the background, but undeniably, a copy of Absolute Final Crisis, one of the most popular recent stories with the character Darkseid, which was introduced on film in Zack Snyders Justice League. Fans began to wonder if this could mean Snyder was planning some sort of follow-up … but we take that question a step further: could
Snyder’s Final crisis teasing has anything to do with Jim Lee’s Crisis on Infinite Earth mosaic from DC’s recent FanDome event?

It seemed unlikely that Lee was teasing anything if one takes the picture at face value. The image (see below) shows TV and movie versions of the heroes – a tweet he made later revealed that even the very cartoon-precise Superman was meant to represent Superman and Lois – but also retains the credit for Marv Wolfman and George Perez from the original comic book cover. It also includes grades from DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Superman and Lois, who had already once gone through the Arrowverse adaptation of the crisis. Nevertheless, Lee deliberately left things vague when he talked about the “puzzle” at the FanDome.

“We wanted to create something fun for the fans to get involved in. It’s simply a puzzle,” Lee explained during the event. “I’ve drawn 12 pictures, each celebrating a particular DC moment … we’ll reveal the last four now during the FanDome, so if you take all 16 and rearrange them and squint a little, hopefully you’ll see what we’ve built up to . “

It’s hard to ignore these two strange, crisis-related teasing that come close to each other. It’s certainly a stretch to think that this would be the way Warner Bros. would announce a big-budget feature film on, but it is not outside the realm of imagination that anything can happen. For example, there have recently been official DC Comics set in the universe of Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie, the 1978 Richard Donners Superman movie and the Justice League Unlimited animated series. Could we have a Snyderverse cartoon? A number of DC artists certainly have experience working on the exclusive comics created for Dr. Pepper, General Mills and other third party partners.

Final crisis was a 2008-2009 cartoon crossover event from DC that was promoted as “the day evil won.” It was centered around the Darkseid successfully finding the Anti-Life Equation and using it to enslave millions of people on Earth before being returned by the heroes of the DC universe. Along the way, Batman died – something that Snyder had long suggested was a long-term plan for his version of the DC Universe.

What do you think? Are we grabbing straw, or is there a chance that these two teases are somehow connected? Tell us in the comments.
