21-year-old Sharon man killed by driver fleeing police, authorities say

A 21-year-old Sharon man died after a Wrentham man driving at “excessive” speeds while fleeing from police crashed into the back of his Subaru near the intersection of Route 1 and Old Post Road, authorities said.
Police said the fleeing driver, Nicholas Snyder, 22, of Wrentham, was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for treatment but is expected to survive. Fraud, which faces criminal charges, including motor vehicle killings and related offenses, is under state police guard at the hospital, officials said.
Police say Snyder traveled north on Foxborough around 6 p.m. 8pm Sunday when another driver and a state officer on traffic details saw his Nissan Altima barrel down the roadway “operating dangerously and irregularly,” a state police spokesman said.
Nissan nearly hit a worker at the traffic detail, “who had entered his truck again a few seconds earlier,” causing the soldier to start chasing the vehicle. Unable to catch up with Nissan, officials ended the pursuit, but police say Snyder “never stopped operating at too high a speed.
Snyder allegedly collided with the Subaru Forrester, killing the 21-year-old, who police have not yet identified, and crashed into a third vehicle.
The driver of the third vehicle was also injured but is expected to survive, police said.
The accident continues to be investigated by the Massachusetts State Police, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section and State Police Detective Unit for Norfolk County. Sharon police and fire also responded and helped.
