“The Art of Banksy,” the traveling exhibition of the infamous street artist, will be on view at the Palace of Fine Arts next month, organizers announced Wednesday, October 27th.

The Marina District landmark was first built for the Panama-Pacific Exhibition in 1915 and has hosted art exhibitions, exhibitions and immersive experiences over the years, including the Refinery 29 “29 Rooms” installation and the Untitled Art Fair in 2018.

“The Art of Banksy”, which is not authorized by the artist but is presented by Starvox Exhibits, the team that brought the popular “Immersive Van Gogh” to San Francisco’s SVN West in 2020, is scheduled to open on November 22nd.

“We could not think of a better location than San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts to showcase this private collection of works by Banksy,” said Starvox founder Corey Ross. “… We are extremely happy and honored to have the opportunity to share these works and hope that this exhibition continues to evoke emotion and spark conversations.”

Banksy, whose real name and identity have never been confirmed, is famous for guerrilla-style satirical murals that mix familiar images like childhood emblems and patriotism with dark humor that undermines the images’ original associations.

The show is expected to feature more than 80 works from private collections, including recognizable images such as “Flower Thrower”, “Rude Copper” and “Girl With Balloon”. The exhibition has already toured in Melbourne, Australia; Amsterdam; Tel Aviv; Auckland, New Zealand; London; and Toronto, where Starvox Exhibits estimates it has been seen by 750,000 people worldwide so far.

The original incarnation of the show was organized by Banksy’s former agent Steve Lazarides, who began working with the artist in the early 2000s and ended their professional relationship in 2008. In a 2016 interview with Time Out Melbourne, about the show’s Australian stop, Lazarides Banksy admitted “probably hates it.”

Banksy was in the news recently when his painting “Love Is in the Bin” was sold at auction at Sotheby’s for $ 25.4 million – 18 times what the work sold for before a device installed in the frame shredded the piece.
