Rust: Were live rounds used recreationally off off?

UPDATE: In a move that should not surprise anyone, THR reports it Rust, Western Alec Baldwin appeared when the tragic shooting of DP Halyna Hutchins happened has been put on hold until investigations are complete. To me, it seems unlikely that the film will ever see the light of day, especially in the wake of allegations that have surfaced from the set over the weekend that question the security measures that were either taken or not taken. Reports say the gun used in the shooting was regularly used to target the crew offset, and that live ammunition may have been used.
Update: Alec Baldwin has released a statement via social media following the deadly shooting incident on the set of his upcoming western, Rust. Baldwin is said to have “unloaded” a stopper gun that accidentally killed Halyna Hutchins and wounded Joel Souza at the New Mexico site. Hutchins died after being transported to a hospital in Albuquerque.
“There are no words to convey my shock and grief over the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and our deeply admired colleague, “ he wrote. “I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to solve how this tragedy arose, and I am in contact with her husband and offer my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son and everyone who knew and loved Halyna. ”

Original article:
A fatal accident happened on the set of Alec Baldwin’s new western, Rust, when the actress unloaded a plug gun that killed the film’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. According to tweets sent by co-star Frances Fisher, Souza has since been released from the hospital.
Hi @shannonrwatts
These quotes are incorrect. And our director Joel Souza is out of the hospital.
I do not subscribe to the daily animal, so if that is what they say, they are wrong.
Would you please correct them? https://t.co/s8LdkLKf0N– Frances Fisher (@Frances_Fisher) October 22, 2021
According to a Deadline report, a Santa Fe sheriff’s official confirmed that Baldwin was questioned by investigators and released. No arrests or charges have been filed.
The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department issued the following statement:
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the Bonanza Creek Ranch movie set in Western “Rust” on October 21, 2021, when a 911 call reported a shooting on the set.
The sheriff’s office confirms that two people were shot on the Rust set. Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a firearm was unloaded by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actress.
Hutchins was transported by helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Mr. Souza was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, where he is being treated for his injuries.
This study remains open and active. No charges have been filed in connection with this incident. Witnesses are still being interviewed by detectives.
Of course, there are still many questions about what actually happened on set, but it sounds like a terrible, tragic incident. It is reminiscent of the tragic accident on the set of The collar that cost star Brandon Lee his life.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Rust issued the following statement via THR:
“The entire cast and crew have been completely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones. We have stopped production of the film for an indefinite period and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation. We will be offering advice to anyone connected to the film as we work to address this horrific event. ”
