NBA’s Enes Kanter will not back calls for ‘Heartless’ China to ‘liberate Uighurs’

The Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter doubles its attack on China’s “brutal dictators,” who this time issued a call to them to stop oppression of the country’s minority-Uighur population.

Last week, Kanter instructed his criticism of China for its horrific treatment of the people of Tibet with a video from October 20 in which he took the Red Chinese to task and accused China of having committed “cultural genocide” against Tibetans. His video resulted in quick retaliation from the Chinese government when the Boston Celtics game was immediately deleted from Tencent, China’s NBA broadcast partner.

Over the weekend, Kanter, who is based in Turkey, doubled his criticism of China, despite what it costs the NBA. On Friday, Kanter released yet another video urging China to stop oppressing the Uighurs.

“Right now, as I speak this message, torture, rape, forced abortion, sterilizations, family separations, arbitrary detentions, concentration camps, political re-education, forced labor,” Kanter said in the latest video. “This is all happening right now for more than 1.8 million Uighurs in the Xinjiang region of northwest China.”

He added:

Uighurs are a Turkish Muslim ethnic group based in the Uyghur region, ”Kanter continued. “The Chinese government has taken extensive measures to crack down on the Uighurs, simply because they embrace their own religion, their own culture, language, history and identity. The Uyghur region has become a state of freedom and surveillance in the open air, where freedoms do not exist for the Uighurs.

Kanter also noted that the Chinese enslave Kazakhs, Tajiks and other Muslim minorities in Chinese concentration camps.

“It is so disappointing,” Kanter continued, “that the governments and leaders of Muslim majority countries remain silent while my Muslim brothers and sisters are being killed, raped and tortured.”

Kanter wondered aloud why so many Muslim world leaders “kept quiet” about abusing Muslims in China. The other world leaders Kanter criticized were Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the United Arab Emirates’ supreme ruler, Mohammed bin Zayed and Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi.

“It is shameful and sad how you have decided to prioritize money and business with China over human rights. You call yourselves Muslims, but you just use it for shows. You simply do not care about people, ”said Kanter.

This is the second time that Kanter has defied the NBA and spoken out about China’s aggression. In his video last week, Kanter said Tibet’s human rights are “non-existent” thanks to Chinese repression.
“Brutal dictator of China Xi Jinping, I have a message for you and your henchmen … free Tibet,” Kanter burst out in the video. “I am here to add my voice and talk about what is happening in Tibet. Under the brutal rule of the Chinese government, the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Tibetan people are non-existent. ”

“They must not study and learn their language and culture freely. They are not allowed to travel freely. They are not allowed to freely access information. The Tibetan people are not even allowed to worship freely, ”Kanter added. For more than 70 years, Tibetan monks, nuns, intellectuals, writers … and many more have been detained, sent to political re-education classes, subjected to torture, lengthy interrogations, and even executed simply to exercise the freedom you and I take. for granted.”
