HBO Max, Hulu retells one of DFW’s most gruesome tales in ‘Love & Death’ – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

It’s 41 years ago that Candy Montgomery killed her friend with an ax on Friday the 13th in the victim’s home on a suburban street to Wylie. The eight-day trial, held in the old courthouse in McKinney, attracted capacity crowds. Montgomery was acquitted after claiming self-defense, which sparked outrage. As she walked to her car, some shouted, “Killer!”

Montgomery had been in an affair with the victim, Betty Gore’s husband, which made things even more outrageous. Their families were close. The two women sang in the church choir together and their children had a sleepover the day before the killing.
