Position Description: Assistant/Associate Professor of Cinematic Arts: Animation
George Fox
University announces a tenure-track position in Cinematic Arts: Animation, to begin August 15, 2022. The committee seeks an
animation practitioner with significant professional experience, as well as an understanding of the technical, critical, and theoretical
issues in cinematic arts education. This role will be central in shaping curricular decisions and outreach for our animation concentration.
The animation faculty enjoy strong collaboration with both our communication and arts and design faculty and students in the School of
Communication & Design.

The Mission of our Cinematic Arts program: To train and
empower influential media artists and storytellers who engage issues of Christian faith and authentic human experience.
The
work of our new colleague will include, but is not limited to:
- Taking on the role of primary instructor for our
Animation concentration in the Cinematic Arts Major. - Teaching courses which could include Intro to Animation, Storyboarding and
Concept Design, 3D Animation, 2D Animation, motion graphics, VFX, and compositing, using current industry standard tools. - Advising
and mentoring students - Assisting with the development and revising of curriculum to improve student outcomes in the animation
concentration and other Cinematic Arts major concentrations. - Advising leadership on facility and equipment acquisitions and
improvements. - Serving on at least one university-wide working group or committee and one department level committee.
- Efforts to recruit and retain students to the animation program.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of
Design and the Communication & Cinematic Arts Chair.
Required Qualifications:
- MFA or
equivalent degree from an accredited institution in animation or a related discipline; or a BA or BFA degree along with significant,
sustained, and exemplary professional experience, and plans to complete an MFA within 3 years of appointment - Animation industry experience
- Significant experience teaching and or mentoring undergraduate students.
- Evidence of
knowledge of the character animation filmmaking process and animation layout design - Demonstrated proficiency in 2D Digital and 3D
Digital character animation practices using tools such as Autodesk Maya, ToonBoom Harmony, Adobe Creative Suite (especially After Effects
and Premiere), Adobe Animate, and/or TV Paint - Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive working environment and work
collaboratively with colleagues and community - A commitment to working with a diverse population of students; demonstrated
experience in this area is preferred. - A willingness to engage a robust continuous improvement process including outcomes based
assessment of curricula and programming - Demonstrated success and or aptitude for remote, hybrid, and face to face instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Involvement with and connections to the Animation industry.
- Demonstrated
proficiency in life-drawing/exceptional draftsmanship and traditionally drawn character animation practices. - The successful
candidate will maintain a significant investment in their own professional animation practice and research, with an ability to connect
students to a professional network. - Experience supervising and mentoring students in the context of internship and practicum
work. - Excellent communication, evidence of leadership, organizational, and management skills which would suggest aptitude for
recruiting and outreach potential, to both grow the program and industry connections to the major.
Salary and
Rank
Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at
previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with
comparable institutions.
